Crear Studio hosted Rewind, Reverse a gallery beyond walls art exhibition by the Vietnamese American Arts and Letters Association (VAALA) from June 4- 25, 2022. The exhibition explores cultural identity and connection, as captured through narratives of childhood memories, cultural expression, anxiety, self-acceptance, and the reclamation of identities. Drawing from themes in the graphic memoir The Best We Could Do by Thi Bui, these artworks diversity the stories of immigrants experience within our community which our community, which continues to change from one generation to the next. 

 

About the VAALA:

VAALA, founded in 1991 by a group of Vietnamese American journalists, artists, and friends to fill a void and provide a space for artists to express themselves as a newly resettled immigrant community. The original mission of VAALA was to support Southeast artist, with an emphasis on Vietnamese literature and visual arts.
