A "Gallery Takeover" is an opportunity for a local emerging artist to showcase their work in their own region while developing practice in curating a site-specific installation at a space for-and-by BIPOC artists, art educators and art administrators. Valerie Jaimes curated and installed this exhibition at Crear Studio in one week's time and it showed for one week in May 2023.

About the CPMCC + The Turning Wheel Project:

"By preserving the history of struggle, resilience and cultural significance, we will educate and empower individuals to become agents of change and visionaries within their own communities." The Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center is open for everyone to enjoy. It is a space where people can communicate openly, create diverse relationships, and take pride in their communities. Through our exhibitions, we educate individuals about Chicana/o, Latina/o, and Indigenous culture and history. We also host a variety of fun educational classes and activities for the public involving a wide range of arts, literature, science and history.

During the exhibition The Turning Wheel Project, also known as the Barrio Bus, visited Santa Ana. It is a mobile classroom and gallery space that educates and serves the local community. It is designed as both a classroom and creative space where history and culture come alive through the telling and presentation of community story and history. The Turning Wheels Project is a partnership between the Chicano Park Steering Committee, the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center, and the University of San Diego's Department of Ethnic Studies.

Valerie James is an educator, ourstorian, photographer and Administrative Assistant at the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center where she specializes in social media management, event logistics, exhibition curation, and grassroots programming.
